Day 5

Rest day

Zero miles.

Admin has been our main focus for the day, starting with finding a launderette. Because apparently my cycle clothing has a distinct odour about it 🤷‍♂️.

After a reasonable night, but not the best (it’s amazing how quickly you get used to sleeping in a tent, as opposed to a house with not as much fresh air!), we had a great breakfast of coffee, OJ, breads, croissants, jams, fresh fruit… I could go on. Monsieur then offed to show us where the nearest laverie (launderette) was, so we followed him in the car. Sadly three of the six machines were broken and there were people waiting. We chose therefore to head into Romans-Sur-Isère and find a supermarket with washing machines outside (common practice in France). So the SuperU car park was where we spent our morning.

The afternoon was a bit nicer as we meandered around Romans. It’s not the nicest of places and much renovation of the town centre was underway, but there were some pretty bits.

We have now pitched camp on a little site by the river in Saint-Nazaire-en-Royans. Pretty, peaceful, great mountain views. Relaxing with a beer and blog writing.

With hindsight, one night in a B&B followed by a night camping was not the best plan. On my days off I could do with the option of just crashing out when I feel like it as well as visiting the local sights. We will probably opt for two nights in the same place next time. Selfish, I know 😞

I also felt guilty today about not riding. I’m looking forward to tomorrow and getting into the mountains ⛰️🚴‍♂️😎
